Roof gutter frame 75% complete

14th June 2008

Today, my wife and I together with the kids did some hunting for lighting fixtures for the house. Last Tuesday in Miri, Malaysia, we did find some options for the lightings, but we decide to go with the local suppliers. The quality is more or less the same anyway, so let's support Brunei economy! (hehe.. no offence to anyone yea!)

The hunt proves to be fruitful, we managed to find very appealing fixtures for the main living room, dining room, dry kitchen and prayer room. Now we are left with choosing chandeliers for the informal living room, ceiling fans, down lights and other minor light fittings... and not to mention the huge chandelier in between the double staircases! Except for the price to be paid, that's quite a huge load off our backs.

In the afternoon, we visited the site again. We notice that the wooden frame for the concrete gutter has been finished at the sides and the back part of the house. What is left as at today is the roof gutter frame at the front! With the fast progress achieved so far, I'm expecting that the frame will be ready for cement within a week (I hope so...)

Today, the main entrance is finally taking shape. The workers had started laying bricks at the front, and the main living room and dining room are almost completely covered. Door frames are also being prepared, making us really impressed, in fact we were so happy that we decided to treat the workers with four packets of rice, whole chickens and two large watermelons!

Enjoy the pictures below.

The whole overview.

The main entrance wall now covered with bricks. There won't be much bricks anyway since the front wall will be mostly covered in glass.

Wiring works at the main entrance. Syafi was really interested.

The entrance from the dining room verandah is also ready.

More planks for the roof gutter frame being carefully crafted.

Safiya looking over the spiral staircase area.

Brick works at the other side of the staircases.

Syafi in the wet kitchen.

I guess it was a bit hot.. look at Syafi sweating all over!

Peek-a-boo! Syafi sitting on one of the windows in the guest bedroom.

Door frames being put together.

The door frames ready to be installed.

Compliments for the workers.

The Indonesian and Thailand workers were happy receiving our treat.
